Gerogina, Ontario - Will Have You WALKING ON WATER

Gerogina, Ontario - Will Have You WALKING ON WATER

Splash The Floating Water Festival

Why have a water festival?

SPLASH is the first step towards developing a Water Centre for Innovation, Research and Learning in Georgina that will make Lake Simcoe synonymous with creativity and water leadership.

Bring your bathing suit and towel. Change facilities are available.

Some of the days events are:

  • walking on water - in a floating water ball
  • sailing lessons
  • paddle boarding, kite boarding and pedal canoes
  • play the world's largest musical instrument
  • hear the H2Orchestra in a Hydraulophone and Boat Horn Symphony
  • swim to Handel's Water Music
  • make shadow box art
  • write on the graffiti wall
  • lie in a hammock while reading water books
  • taste local farm foods
  • jam with music groups: jazz, classical, country, surf and kid’s music
  • see the latest in Water Science
  • be part of a retrospective film of the event to be shown at the end of the day

You can download the entire festival schedule in pdf format

You can take part in helping float this wonderful idea that will help Ontario be a water leader and take its place as a water rich yet water conscious Province.

Ontario has about 250,000 lakes and water covers nearly 17% of Ontario.

Lake Simcoe is the fourth largest lake completely within Ontario's Borders. The watershed draining into Simcoe contains roughly half a million people including the northern portions of THe Greater Toronto Area.

The Town of Georgina, stretching along Lake Simcoe's southern shore for 52 kilometers, is home of many smaller communities such as Keswick, Sutton, Jacksons Point, Pefferlaw and Udora many of which started as cottage communities.

Georgina plays a major role in the health of the lake and benifits substantially by it's presence. The Lake is a valuable sport fishery and recreational asset with visitors from great distances who help the region generate about $200 million in revenue per year.

Kathy, Alec would LOVE this, as would mommy and daddy.  Unfortunately he has a soccer tournament this weekend, but you have opened up my eyes, and I will be on the lookout for something like this, it would be a great family day...

Kathy, A great and unique festival. It's great to see communities celebrating and sharing just how important of a resource our water is. Have fun!

Chris - I wish him well ..... but in the end it's not about wining or loosing it's about how well each individual played the game and the enjoyment they get out of playing.

Evan - from what goes down our drains to what we spread on the land we can no longer assume that nature will absorb the things we pour into our lakes and rivers.

An abundance of water such as we have here in Ontario does not mean we have an unending supply of consumable water. ..... We have to look after what we have.

Kathy,

This event looks like a great family event and for a cheap price. I am sure the kids will have a blast and there certainly is more than enough to do for the adults. If you go have a good time..

Robert - hearing and learning about the underlying message is important as well.

I think it might take someone who can walk on water to solve the problems here in the United States!

Jim - there is good news from many places in the U.S. ..... there have been a lot of posts lately about real estate recovering in various areas across the U.S. some of which you can find here

Kathy, It sounds like a nice event for these warm summer days. Great water fun, plus as you say "it's hearing and learning about the underlying message"  which is what the important part of this event is really all about!
